Westfield man is killed after losing control of motorcycle in Tewksbury
A 51-year-old Westfield man died Friday when his motorcycle crashed into a bridge wall in Tewksbury, police said today.
Ronald Heinkel was traveling north on County Road 517, also called Old Turnpike Road, near Fieldview Lane at about 4:45 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve and lost control of the motorcycle, police said.
The vehicle skidded across the two-lane road and struck the stone wall of a bridge. Police said Heinkel flipped over the bridge and fell as far as 12 feet to the ground below.
Police said Heinkel, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was wearing a helmet.
